Double Crochet

Like single crochet, double crochet is one of the most versatile and basic stitches. Double crochet stitch is the foundation for making a wide range of projects. Work alone or in combination with chain stitch to create dense or open crochet fabric. Keep your tension even for best results, and you are ready to go!

	instructions

	Click each diagram for a larger view. Fig 1 Yarn over, insert hook into the 4th chain stitch from hook. Fig 2 Yarn over and pull through to get 3 loops on the hook. Fig 3 Yarn over and pull through the 2 loops twice to complete 1 double crochet and 1 chain stitch. Fig 4 Yarn over and insert the hook into the next chain stitch to start the next double crochet. Fig 5 At the end of the first row chain 3 stitches, turn. Fig 6 Yarn over and insert the hook into the 2nd double crochet below. Fig 7 At the end of the 2nd row work the last double crochet into the chain 3 stitch below, then chain 3 stitches, turn, yarn over and insert the hook into the 2nd double crochet below. All rows of crochet stitches, except for single crochet, begin with several chain stitches which count as one stitch.
