SCARF
Ch223. Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 221 sts.
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8: Ch 4, skip first 2 dc, * dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc; rep from * to last st; dc in top of ch-3; turn.
Rows 3, 5, 7, 9: Ch 3, * dc in ch-1 sp, dc in next dc; rep from * across working last dc in 3rd ch of ch-4.
Fasten off at end of Row 9.
Braid Fringe: Cut three 18" strands for each of 10 braids. Bring ends of 3 strands through end of a dc row; even up the cut ends, then divide into 3 groups of 2 strands and braid. Make a knot at end of braid. Trim ends. Rep at each end of every dc row.
HAT
Ch 5; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 4, [dc in ring, ch 1] 8 times; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of ch-4.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 3 dc in sp, [dc in next dc, 3 dc in next sp] 8 times; join to top of ch-3 - 36 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 4, * dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * around; join in 3rd ch of ch-4.
Rnds 4, 6, 8, 10, 12: Ch 3, dc in sp, * dc in next dc, dc in next sp; rep from * around; join - 72 sts.
Rnds 5, 7, 9, 11: Ch 4, skip next dc, * dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc; rep from * around; join in 3rd ch of ch-4.
Fasten off at end of Rnd 12.
Right Ear Flap: With right side facing, skip first 10 sts of last rnd, attach yarn in next dc.
Row 1: Ch 3, dc in next 10 dc; turn - 11 sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip first dc, dc in each dc across and in top of ch-3; turn.
Row 3: Ch 2, skip first dc, dc in next dc - beg dec made; dc in each dc to last 2 sts; [yo and draw up a lp in next st, yo and draw through 2 lps] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook - dec made; turn - 9 sts.
Rows 4-6: Rep Row 3 - 3 sts at end of Row 6.
Row 7: Ch 2, [yo and draw up a lp in next st, yo and draw through 2 lps] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook - 1 st. Fasten off.
Left Ear Flap: With right side facing, skip next 30 dc after right ear flap, attach yarn in next dc and work Rows 1-7 same as for right ear flap EXCEPT do NOT fasten off.
Edging: With right side still facing; ch 1, * sc in next row end or dc TO THE RIGHT; rep from * around entire hat. Fasten off.
Ties (Make 2): Make same as for scarf fringe attaching at tip of each ear flap.
Top Braids (Make 2): Make same as for scarf fringe attaching at ring at top of hat.
MITTENS
Left Mitt: Ch 4; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring; join with a sl st to top of ch-3 - 12 sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same ch as joining, dc in next 5 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in last 5 dc; join - 16 sts.
Rnd 3: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 7 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in last 7 sts; join - 20 sts.
Rnd 4: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, 2 dc in same dc, dc in next 9 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in last 9 sts; join - 24 sts.
Rnds 5-8: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join.
Rnd 9: Ch 3, dc in next 12 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in last 10 dc; join - 25 sts.
Divide for Thumb-Rnd 10: Ch3, dc in next 14 dc, ch 7, skip next 3 dc, dc in last 7 dc; join.
Rnd 11: Ch 3, dc in next 14 dc, dc in each ch of ch-7, dc in last 7 dc; join - 29 sts.

Rnd 14: Rep Rnd 5.
Rnds 15-18: Ch 2; dc around next dc from the front - fpdc made; dc around next dc from the back - bpdc made; fpdc, *bpdc, fpdc; rep from * around; join in top of ch-2.
Fasten off at end of Rnd 18.
Thumb-Rnd 1: With right side facing, attach yarn in last of 3 skipped dc of Rnd 9; ch 3, dc over next row end, dc opposite each of 7 dc across ch, dc over next row end, dc in first 2 skipped dc; join - 12 sts.
Rnds 2-4: Ch 3, dc in each dc around decreasing 2 sts evenly spaced; join - 6 sts rem at end of Rnd 4. Fasten off. Weave yarn through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten securely. Weave in ends.
Right Mitt-Rnds 1-8: Work same as for lext mitt.
Rnd 9: Ch 3, dc in next 10 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in last 12 dc; join - 25 sts.
Divide for Thumb-Rnd 10: Ch 3, dc in next 7 dc, ch 7, ckip next 3 dc, dc in last 14 dc; join.
Rnd 11: Ch 3, dc in next 7 dc, dc in each ch of ch-7, dc in last 14 dc; join - 29 sts.
Rnd 12: Ch 3, dc in next 6 dc, dec, dc in next 5 dc, dec, dc in last 13 dc; join - 27 sts.
