5 COLOR PONCHO: MOTIF 1 (2, 3, 4): With CB (CC,CD, CE), ch 4; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 3, [3 dc in ring, ch 3] 3 times; join with a sl st in top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: Join CC (CD, CE, CB) in any ch-3 sp; ch 3; [yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] twice all in same sp, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook – beg cl (cluster) made; ch 3; [yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] 3 times all in same ch-3 sp, yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook – cl made; * ch 2, skip next dc, cl in next dc, ch 2 **, (cl, ch 3, cl) all in next ch-3 sp; rep from * around, end at **; join in top of beg cl. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join CA in any corner ch-3 sp; ch 1, * (sc, ch 3, sc) all in ch-3 sp, [ch 5, sc in next sp] twice, ch 5; rep from * around; join in first sc.

Join 12 Motifs into 3 strips joined into one panel as follows:

Joining Rnd 4: Sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in same sp, [sc in next sp, ch 5] twice, sc in next sp, * (3 dc, ch 1, sl st in corner ch-3 sp of completed motif, ch 1, 3 dc) all in next ch-3 sp *, sl st in next sc of completed motif, [sc in next sp, ch 2, sl st in next sp of completed motif, ch 2] twice, sc in next sp, sl st in next sc of completed motif; rep from * to * once – one side joined; complete rnd. Fasten off.
Join on 2 Sides: Work as for Joining Rnd 4, EXCEPT join the 2nd and 3rd corners by working the sl st into the sl st of previous joining; complete rnd.
FINISHING: Fold poncho, placing short end of right side against opposite end of long edge and join as follows: with right sides together and working through both layers, join CA in corner sp at lower edge; ch 1, sc in same sp, * ch 5, skip next 3 dc, sc in next sc, [ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp] twice, ch 3, sc in next sc, ch 5, sc in joining st; rep from * across. Drawstring: With CA, make a chain 47" long. Fasten off. Weave through Rnd 4 of Neck Edging. Make 2 tassels 2½" long and attach to each end of drawstring.
Lower Edging: With right side facing, join CA at lower edge in any joining st; work in same manner as Rnd 1 of neck edging, except work “(sc, ch 3, sc)” all in sp at point and end with “ch 3; join to first sc”.
Fasten off.
1 COLOR PONCHO: Make 3 strips of Motifs each 12 Motifs long, omitting all reference to color changes in Motif instructions and changing beg of Rnds 2 and 3 to “Sl st to next ch-3 sp”. |
