CROCHETED BAGS

VERSION I-Front Bottom: With CA, ch 30. Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn - 29 sc. Rows 2- 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Fasten off.
Front: Ch 4, with RS facing, sc in back lp of each sc across bottom; ch 5; turn. Next Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 3 ch, sc in each sc across, sc in last 4 ch; turn - 37 sc. Work 2 rows even in sc, changing to CB in last st of 2nd row. Begin pat:
Row 1 (RS): Ch 3, skip first 2 sc, * 2 dc in next sc, skip next sc; rep from * to last sc; dc in last sc; turn. Row 2: Ch 3, skip first 2 dc, * 2 dc in sp between the 2-dc group **, skip 2 dc; rep from * to last 2 sts, end at **; skip next dc, dc in top of ch-3; turn. Row 3: Rep Row 2, changing to CA in last st. Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 1, skip next dc, * sc in sp between the 2-dc group, ch 1 **, skip 2 dc; rep from * to last 2 sts, end at **; skip next dc, sc in top of ch-3; turn. Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each sc and ch-1 sp across; turn. Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, changing to CB in last sc; turn.
Rep Rows 1-6 twice more. Work 2 rows with CA. Fasten off.
Back: With RS facing, attach CA to Bottom and work 29 sc across. Work same as front, beg Bottom Row 2.
FINISHING: Sew side seams; sew lower edge of sides to bottom. Top Edge: With RS facing, attach CB at side seam and work 1 rnd sc around; join to first sc. Fasten off.
Handle Tab (Make 2): With CB, ch 23. Row 1: 2 dc in 5th ch from hook, skip next ch, * 2 dc in next ch, skip next ch; rep from * to last ch, dc in last ch; turn. Rows 2-4: Rep Row 2 of Front. Fasten off. Center handle at top of bag and sew tabs to front and back over the handle and over the top 2-3 rows of bag.
Button Flap: With CB, ch 9. Work same as Handle Tab for 11 rows. Fasten off. Align beg edge with that of handle tab and sew in place at center of back. Sew button to center front; use sp between sts of flap as buttonhole.

VERSION II: Work same as Version I EXCEPT work Top Edge with CA and replace Handle Tab and Button Flap as follows: Handle Loops (Make 4): With CA, ch 25. Fasten off. Center handle at top of bag; mark placement for loops. Weave the ch between sts 6 rows down from top edge from the WS to the RS, through the handle, back through the RS (skip a st on front of bag) to the WS, and through the handle again; tie ends together on inside of bag to secure; weave in ends. Rep for 3 more loops. Button Loop: Make same as handle loop; sew ends to center back beg 3 rows down from top edge. Sew button to front.

KNIT BAGS

VERSION I-Front and Back (Alike): Cast on 25 sts. Marking first row as the RS, K 2 rows. Rows 3, 5, 7, 9: K, inc 1 st at each end - 33 sts at end of Row 9. Rows 4, 6, 8: K. Rows 10-13: K. Begin pat:
Rows 1, 3, 5 (Wrong Side): K3, * P3, K3; rep from * across.
Row 2 AND EVERY RS ROW: K. Rows 7, 9, 11: P3, * K3, P3. Row 12: K.
Rep Rows 1-12 twice more. Top Border: K 6 rows. Bind off.

FINISHING: Sew side and bottom seams. Handle Tabs (Make 4): Cast on 3 sts. K17 rows. Bind off. Center handle at top of bag and mark placement of tabs at each end of handle bar. Sew tabs in place over bar and over top 6 rows. Button Flap: Cast on 7 sts. K 26 rows. Bind off. Sew to center top of back; sew button to flap. Button Loop: Cast on 25 sts. Bind off. Sew ends together; sew to front to emerge from under the button flap.

VERSION II: Make same as Version I except insert handle tabs through handle openings and sew in place over top 6 rows.
