SQUARE 1 (Make 32): With CA, ch 3; join
with a sl st to join to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 3, [3 dc in ring,
ch 3] 3 times; join with a sl st in top of ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * (2 dc, ch 3, 2
dc) all in ch-3 sp for corner **, dc in next 3
dc; rep from * around, end at **; join. Fasten
off CA.
Rnd 3: Attach CB in ch-3 corner sp; ch 1, *
(sc, ch 3, sc) all in corner sp, [ch 1, skip next
dc, sc in next dc] 3 times, ch 1; rep from *
around; join with a sl st in first sc. Fasten off
CB.
Rnd 4: Attach CC in ch-3 corner sp; ch 3, (2
dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in same sp, * ch 1, skip next
sc and next sp, 3 dc in next sc, ch 1, skip next
sp and next sc and next sp, 3 dc in next sc, ch
1, skip next sp and next sc **, (3 dc, ch 3, 3
dc) all in corner ch-3 sp; rep from * around,
end at **; join.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * (3 dc, ch 1, 3
dc) all in corner sp, [dc in next 3 dc, dc in
next ch-1 sp] 3 times **, dc in next 3 dc; rep
from * around, end at **; join. Fasten off CC.

SQUARE 2 (Make 31): Make same as for
Square 1 EXCEPT use CC instead of CA to
beg and work through Rnds 2 and use CA in
stead of CC to work Rnds 4 and 5.

ASSEMBLY-Note: Afghan is made in seven
vertical strips of 9 alternating squares. Squares
are crocheted together in the following order:
Vertical Strips 1, 3, 5, and 7: 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1.
Vertical Strips 2, 4, and 6: 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2.

JOIN SQUARES: Work from bottom to top
alternating squares as in assemble note. Work
joins in same direction. Holding squares with
wrong sides together, attach CB through both
corner ch-1 sps; ch 1, sc in both corner sps, *
ch 1, skip 1 dc on each square, sc into next dc
on both squares; rep from * until 1 dc before
corner; ch 1, skip next dc, sc in corner ch-1
sp. Fasten off.
JOIN STRIPS: Work from left to right. Work
joins in same direction. Holding strips with
wrong sides together, attach CB in both corner
ch-1 sps at bottom edge; join as for squares
across strips AND make a ch-1 over the joining
of the squares.
EDGING: With right side facing, attach CB
in any corner; ch 1, * (sc, ch 3, sc) all in corner
sp, work (sc, ch 1) evenly across to next
corner sp, rep from * around; join to first sc.
Weave in ends.
