NOTE: Because of the nature of the stitch, the fabric will pull in slightly.

NOTE: Unless otherwise instructed, sc are worked through both lps of a st.

To Decrease (dec) in sc: draw up a lp in next 2 sts, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

BACK: Ch 44 (48, 52, 56, 60).
** Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 43 (47, 51, 55, 59) sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in FRONT LP of each sc across; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc; * insert hook in free lp of sc 1 row below AND through both lps of next sc, yo and draw yarn through these 3 lps, yo and draw through both lps on hook3-lp sc made; sc in next sc; rep from * across; turn.
Row 4: Rep Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, 3-lp sc in first sc, * sc in next sc, 3-lp sc in next sc; rep from * across; turn.

Rep Rows 2-5 for pat until 4 (4, 4½, 4½, 4½)" from beg, end right side row.

Casing Row (Wrong Side): Ch 3, skip first st, dc in each st across; turn.
Next Row (Right Side): Ch 1, sc in first dc, sc in each dc across and in top of ch-3; turn.

Continue in pat until 10½ (10½, 11½, 11½, 11½)" from beg, end right side row. ** Fasten off.

Shape Armholes: With wrong side facing, skip first 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) sc, attach yarn in front lp of next sc; ch 1, sc in this lp and in front lps of next 36 (40, 42, 46, 48) sts; turn – 37 (41, 43, 47, 49) sc.
Keeping continuity of pat, dec 1 st at each end of next 3 (4, 3, 4, 4) wrong side rows – 31 (33, 37, 39, 41) sts. Work even until armhole measures 8 (8½, 9, 9½, 10)". Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT: Ch 22 (24, 26, 28, 30). Work in pat same as for Back from ** to ** over 21 (23, 25, 27, 29) sts.
Shape Armhole and Neck (Wrong Side): Ch 1, dec over first 2 sts, work in pat to last 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) sts; turn, leaving last sts unworked at armhole edge.
Keeping continuity of pat, dec 1 st at each end of next 3 (4, 3, 4, 4) wrong side rows, then at neck edge only every wrong side row until 9 (10, 11, 12, 13) sts remain. Work even until front measures same as back. Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT: Work Same as Left Front to Armhole Shaping. Fasten off.
Shape Armhole and Neck (Wrong Side): Skip first 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) sts, attach yarn in front lp of next sc; ch 1, sc in front lp of same sc and in each sc to last 2 sc; dec at neck edge over last 2 sc; turn.
Complete to correspond to Left Front, reversing shaping.

FINISHING- Armhole Edging: Sew shoulder seams. With right side facing, attach yarn and work 1 row sc evenly across armhole edge; turn. Work 1 more row sc. Fasten off.

Body Edging-Rnd 1: Sew side seams. With right side facing, attach yarn at right shoulder seam; ch 1, sc evenly around entire outer edge working 3 sc at lower corners and at beg of neck shaping on fronts; join with a sl st to first sc.
Mark for buttonhole on right front below beg of neck shaping; mark for second buttonhole halfway between first buttonhole marker and top of Casing Row.
Rnd 2-Buttonhole Rnd: Ch 1, working 3 sc in each corner as before, [sc in each sc to marker, ch 1, skip next sc] twice, sc in each sc around; join; TURN.
Rnd 3-Shell Stitch Edging (Wrong Side): Ch 1, sc in first sc, * skip next st, 5 dc in next st, skip next st, sc in next st; rep from * around, adjusting as necessary at corners and at end of rnd; join. Fasten off.

Weave in ends. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes. Fold ribbon in half lengthwise; weave through Casing Row.
