How to make a gauge swatch
With 2 strands of A held together (or 1 strand of B), ch 12 (13).
Row 1 Sc (hdc) in 2nd (3rd) ch from hook and in each ch across—11 sts. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Row 2 Sc (hdc) in each st across. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Repeat row 2 10 times more. Swatch should measure 4” x 4"/10 x 10cm. If necessary, adjust hook size to get the correct gauge.

Notes
1 Blue booties are worked in sc and pink booties are worked in hdc. Directions for pink booties are in parentheses.
2 Use one strand of A throughout.
3 Use 2 strands of B held together throughout.
4 To join yarn with a sc, make a slipknot and place on hook. Insert hook into st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops on hook.
5 To join yarn with a hdc, make a slipknot and place on hook. Yo, insert hook into st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 3 loops on hook.

BOOTIES
Sole
With 2 strands of A (1 strand of B), ch 6 (7).
Round 1 (right side) Work 2 sc (hdc) in 2nd (3rd) ch from hook, sc (hdc) in next 3 ch, work 3 sc (hdc) in last ch, turn to bottom loops of beginning ch, work 2 sc (hdc) in first loop, sc (hdc) in next 3 loops, work 2 sc (hdc) in last loop, join round with a sl st in first st—15 sts. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Round 2 Work 2 sc (hdc) in first st, sc (hdc) in next 3 sts, [work 2 sc (hdc) in next st, sc (hdc) in next st] 4 times, sc (hdc) in next 2 sts, work 2 sc (hdc) in last st, join round with a sl st in first st—21 sts. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Round 3 Sc (hdc) in first st, work 2 sc (hdc) in next st, sc (hdc) in next 5 sts, work 2 sc (hdc) in next st, sc (hdc) in next st, [work 2 sc (hdc) in next st] 3 times, sc (hdc) in next st, work 2 sc (hdc) in next st, sc (hdc) in next 5 sts, work 2 sc (hdc) in next st, sc (hdc) in last st, join round with a sl st in first st—28 sts. Sides
Round 4 (wrong side) Working in front loops only, sc (hdc) in 28 sts around, join round with a sl st in front loop of first st. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Rounds 5 and 6 Sc (hdc) in 28 sts around, join round with a sl st in first st. Ch 1 (2), turn. When round 6 is completed, do not ch, fasten off.

Cuff
Row 1 With right side facing, join yarn with a sc (hdc) in the 7th st to the right of center back joining, sc (hdc) in next 13 sts—14 sts. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Row 2 Sc (hdc) in first st, work 2 sc (hdc) in next st, sc (hdc) in next 10 sts, work 2 sc (hdc) in next st, sc (hdc) in last st—16 sts. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Rows 3–6 Sc (hdc) in each st across. Ch 1 (2), turn. When row 6 is completed, do not ch, fasten off.

Instep
Row 1 With right side facing, join yarn with a sc (hdc) in back loop of first st after left side edge of cuff, working in back loops only, sc (hdc) in next 5 sts, sc2tog (hdc2tog), sc (hdc) in last 6 sts—13 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2 Sc (hdc) in first 4 sts, sc2tog (hdc2tog), sc (hdc) in next st, sc2tog (hdc2tog), sc (hdc) in last 4 sts—11 sts. Fasten off leaving an 8”/20.5cm tail. Thread tail in yarn needle. Fold instep in half, then sew edges of last row together. Fasten off securely.

Tongue
Row 1 With right side facing, join yarn with a sc (hdc) in top right edge of instep, work 4 more sc (hdc) evenly spaced to top left edge—5 sts. Ch 1 (2), turn.
Row 2 Sc2tog (hdc2tog), sc (hdc) in next st, sc2tog (hdc2tog). Fasten off.

Finishing
Weave in all ends. Cut ribbon in half. For each bootie, sew center of ribbon to center back of bootie to hold in place. Fold cuff over ribbon. Tie ribbon into a bow. Trim ribbon ends to desired length, cutting each at an angle.
