AUNT LYDIA'S® "Denim" Quick Crochet thread, 75% cotton, 25% acrylic, Art. 152 (8 ounce/400 yard ball).

Amount-Checkered Rug: 2 Balls each No. 1065 Chambray CA and No. 1002 Milk CB; Striped Rug: 2 balls each No. 1021 Linen CA and No. 1002 Milk.

Crochet Hooks: U.S. Sizes K-10½ [6½mm] and J-10 [6mm].

Rugs measure approximately 24" wide x 31" long without fringe.

GAUGE: 9 sts = 4"; 8 rows = 3" in pat with larger hook and 2 strands held together. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.

CHECKERED RUG

NOTE: Work with 2 strands held together throughout.

STRIP 1 (Make 3): With larger hook and CA ch 12 loosely.
Row 1 (Right Side): Draw up a lp in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, yo and draw though all 3 lps on hook, * draw up a lp in same ch as last leg of last st and in next ch, yo and through all 3 lps on hook; rep from * across; sc in same ch as last leg of last st; turn – 11 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, draw up a lp in first 2 sts, yo and draw though all 3 lps on hook, * draw up a lp in same st as last leg of last st and in next st, yo and through all 3 lps on hook; rep from * across; sc in same st as last leg of last st; turn – 11 sts.
Rows 3-12: Rep Row 2 changing to CB in last sc of Row 12. Now work 12 rows in pat with CB, then 12 rows with CA. Rep the last 24 rows twice more – 7 blocks. Fasten off.

STRIP 2 (Make 2): Work same as Strip 1 reversing color placement.

FINISHING: Sew strips together as pictured. With right side facing, smaller hook and CA work 1 rnd sc evenly around rug working 3 sc in each corner; join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Optional: Cut 7" lengths of CA and knot into a fringe on each short end of rug. Trim.

STRIPED RUG

NOTE: Work with 2 strands held together throughout.

With larger hook and CA ch 71 loosely. Work in pat same as for Checkered Rug over 70 sts for 2 rows changing to 1 strand CA and 1 strand CB (CA/CB) at end of 2nd row. Now work 4 rows in pat with CA/CB, then 4 rows CB, then 4 rows CA/CB, then 4 rows CA. Rep last 16 rows for color pat twice more, then 4 rows CA/CB, 4 rows CB, 4 rows CA/CB, and 2 rows CA. At end of last CA row, turn and change to smaller hook and work 1 rnd sc evenly around rug working 3 sc in each corner; join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Optional: Cut 7" lengths of thread and knot into a fringe on each short end of rug, matching stripe colors. Trim.
