Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 4, [3 dc in ring, ch 4] 3 times; join with a sl st to top of ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, sc in ch-4 lp, ch 3 **, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around, end at **; join.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, * 3 dc in ch-3 sp, ch 4, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp **, dc in next 5 dc; rep from * around, end at **; join.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in next 7 dc, * (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in corner ch-4 sp **, dc in next 11 dc; rep from * to last 3 dc, end at **; dc in last 3 dc; join – 17 dc between corners. Fasten off.
Sew motifs together through back lps following diagram.
Edging: With right side facing, join thread in ch-3 sp where indicated on diagram; ch 1, *** (2 sc; ch 2, sl st in side and top lps of last sc made – picot made; 2 sc) all in ch-3 sp, * sc in next 3 dc, [picot, sc in next 4 dc] 3 times, picot, sc in next 2 dc **, [sc in next sp] twice; rep from * to next ch-3 sp, end at ** †; rep from *** to † 4 more times; rep from *** to ** once more; rep from *** around, end at †; join with a sl st in first sc.
