It’s easy to make a taller or shorter bag—simply repeat Round 2 more or fewer times. To make a wider or narrower bag, just start with a longer or shorter foundation chain. |

Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 18 sc. Rows 2-18 Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Resulting gauge swatch should measure approx 4" x 4"/10 x 10 cm. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
note 1 Tote Bag is worked in continuous rounds; do not join or turn at the end of rounds. Place a marker at the beginning of each round and move the marker as each round is completed. 2 For the handles, we used a strap set which includes leather “keepers” that are sewn on the inside of the bag for extrareinforcement. Available at BasketsofJoy.com
TOTE Ch 136; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring. Take care to not twist the ch when joining. Place marker on first ch. Round 1 (right side) Sc in each ch around; do not join – 136 sc. Round 2 Sc in each sc around; do not join. Repeat Round 2 until piece measures 13"/33cm. Work one sl st in next sc and fasten off.
finishing From wrong side, sew bottom seam. From wrong side, sew ends of handles to top of Tote, approx 3"/7.5cm from side edges. Turn Tote right-side out. Weave in ends. |
