2 (2, 4, 4) 350-yard balls Red, 2 (2, 4, 4) 400-yard balls White, and 2 (2, 2, 4) 350-yard balls Blue.

Crochet Hooks: U.S. Sizes C-2 [2.75mm] and E-4 [3.5mm];
Smallest Flag Only: Steel Hook Size 8 [1.4mm].

Tapestry needle.

White Craft Glue.

FLAG: With E hook and double strand of Red, ch 77 (152, 190, 228).

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 75 (150, 188, 226) sts.

Row 2: Ch 3, skip first dc, dc in each dc across and in top of ch-3; turn.

Rep Row 2 working 0 (2, 3, 4) more rows with Red, then 2 (4, 5, 6) rows White, [2 (4, 5, 6) rows Red, 2 (4, 5, 6) rows White] twice – 6 stripes.

Next Row: With Red, work across first 43 (87, 110, 132) sts changing to Blue in last st, with Blue work to end; turn.

Next Row: With Blue, work across first 32 (63, 78, 94) sts, with Red work to end; turn.

Continue to work all Blue sts with Blue while keeping continuity of Red and White stripes until there are 13 stripes in all, ending with a Red stripe. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

BAND: With C hook, attach double strand of White at upper left corner of Blue section; ch 1, work 2 sc in each row end across the short side of the flag; turn. Work 2 (4, 6, 8) more sc rows. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

NOTE: Work Rnd 1 of Stars over the beginning strand; then pull on this strand to close the center of the star tightly.

STARS-Smallest (Medium) Sizes only (Make 100)-Rnd 1: With steel (C) hook and single (double) strand of White, ch 3; sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next ch as the “ring”, [ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in the “ring” chain] 4 times – 5 points. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Star should measure approximately 3/8 (5/8)" across.

STARS-Large Size only (Make 100)-Rnd 1: With C hook and double strand of White, ch 2; 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with a sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2: [Ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next sc] 5 times – 5 points. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Star should measure 7/8" across.

STARS-Extra-large Size only (Make 100)-Rnd 1: With C hook and double strand of White, ch 2; 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with a sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2: [Ch 3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, skip next sc, sl st in next sc] 5 times – 5 points. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Star should measure 1 1/8" across.

FINISHING-All sizes: Glue 50 stars to Blue section on front and back of flag following diagram.
