With CA, Ch 154.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 3, skip 3 ch, dc in next 2 ch; rep from * across; turn.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 3, * 5 dc in next ch 3 space; rep from * across; dc in top of ch3; turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in first dc of 5-dc group, * ch 3, skip 3 dc, dc in each of next 2 dc; rep from * across, ending with dc in last dc of 5-dc group, dc in top of ch-3. Drop CA, to be used later. DO NOT TURN.

Row 4: With Right Side facing you join CB with sc between first 2 dc of Row 3, working into Row 2; * fold last row down toward you so you are working behind in the 5-dc group row, sc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, sc in next dc, sc between next 2 dc of Row 3 into Row 2; rep from * across, ending with sc between last 2 dc of Row 3. Fasten off CB.

Row 5: Pick up CA, ch 3, * 2 dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in same sp picking up BACK LOOP ONLY of center dc, 2 dc in same sp; rep from * across, ending with dc in top of ch-3; turn. (NOTE: There are 5 dc in each ch-3 sp across).

Beg with Row 3 and ending with Row 5, rep Rows 3-5 for patterns until approx. 42” for baby afghan or 55” for full size afghan. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.

BORDER: Working down long edge over end of row turning ch, ch 3, 2 dc over this first turning ch, *ch 3, skip next end of row dc, 2 dc over next end of row turning ch; rep from * across to corner, ch 3, sl st in first st of beg ch at base of dc on Row 1. Fasten off. Join CA in base st of dc on opposite long edge, ch 3, 2 dc over first end of row dc, *ch 3, skip next turning-ch row, 2 dc over dc at end of next row; rep from * across to corner, ch 3, sl st in top of dc at beg of next short side of blanket; turn.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 5 sc over ch-3 just made *sc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 sc over next ch-3; rep from * to next corner, 5 sc in corner; rep from * around entire outside edge of blanket, ending with sl st in beg sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
