Anchor Pearl Cotton - Size 8 in colors to match fabric.
Note: two shades were used for the floral motif and outer border, and one shade was used for the stems.

Embroidery Needle, No. 7

Linen fabric, 1 yard x 36" to create runner and two doilies.

Model was originally stitched using Coats & Clark's O.N.T. Six Strand Floss, but we suggest using Anchor Pearl Cotton for best results when creating cutwork embroidery.

instructions

Vanity Runner

Cut a piece of linen 17" x 36". Draw out 2 threads to form a 16" x 25" rectangle.

Trace the cutwork embroidery design from the downloadable instruction sheet and transfer the design just inside the drawn threads in corner of your fabric.

Using one strand of Anchor Pearl Cotton No. 8 throughout, follow the diagram and color key for stitches and colors.

Be careful to have the looped edge of the Buttonhole Stitch to the outside edge where excess fabric is to be cut away.

Cut away the fabric from the small part of the flower motif marked by "X" on the transfer.

Transfer design motif and work remaining 3 corners in the same way.

To complete outer edge of runner, with Anchor Pearl Cotton No. 8 in color desired, work button hole stitch along edges working 3 fabric threads in from drawn thread, making sure the looped edge is to the outside. When complete, cut away excess material, taking care to not snip the pearl cotton as you trim away fabric.

NIGHT TABLE DOILY

Cut remaining fabric in half. Draw out 2 threads to form a 14" x 14" square for each doily. Work same as for Runner.

tips

For best results, complete all embroidery, including buttonhole stitch and surface embroidery, before trimming away excess fabric.

Please visit our "How To" section for instructions for specific stitches featured in this project.

To begin and end threads, do not knot; run your thread back and forth under several stitches on the back to secure. This will ensure that your work is neat and flat.
