Knitting Needles: 9mm [US 13].

Yarn needle, wood handles DT9005, two size 10 snap sets, 2 buttons, sewing needle and thread, 1/4 yard of grosgrain ribbon.

GAUGE: 14 sts = 4"; 25 rows = 4" in pat. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

NOTE: Use 1 strand each of CA and CB held together throughout.

NOTE: Slip all stitches purlwise.

BACK & FRONT (Alike): Cast on 53 sts.
Row 1 (Wrong Side): K1, * bring yarn to front of work, sl next st, bring yarn to back of work, K1; rep from * across.
Row 2: K1, P1, * bring yarn to back of work, sl next st, bring yarn to front of work, P1; rep from * to last st; K1.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 for pat until approximately 10" from beginning, end by working Row 2. Bind off in pattern.

Flap: Cast on 11 sts. Work in pat until 4" from beginning.

Buttonhole Row: Keeping continuity of pat, work first 5 sts, yo, work 2 sts tog, work in pat to end.

Work even in pat for 1 3/4". Make another buttonhole as before.
Work even until flap measures approximately 7" from beginning. Bind off.

FINISHING: Sew side and bottom seams.

Gusset: With wrong side of bag facing, hold the bottom seam and a side seam together, forming a point; sew through both layers
approximately 2" down where the point measures approximately 2 1/2" across. Secure the tip of the point to the bottom
seam. Repeat on opposite end of the bottom seam.

Turn bag right side out and sew snaps approximately 1 3/4" from side seams and 1 1/4" down from the top open edges. Sew flap to the center of the back. Sew buttons to the front to correspond to the buttonholes on the flap.

Cut ribbon into four 2 1/4" lengths. Thread one length through each of the 4 handle slots. Center the handles on the back and front and sew the ribbon ends securely into position.
