NOTE: Sl all sts as if to purl.
NOTE: Choose the size to make by the foot width, not the length. The length of the leg ribbing and the actual foot can be accommodated individually.
LEG: Cast on 28 (32, 36, 40) sts. Divide sts on 3 needles. Work in rnds of K2, P2 ribbing until 51/2 (61/4, 7, 71/2)" from beg.
Divide for Heel: Work in pat across first 7 (8, 9, 10) sts of Needle 1; sl rem sts of Needle 1 to Needle 2; sl last 7 (8, 9, 10) sts of Needle 3 to Needle 1; sl rem sts of Needle 3 to Needle 2: there are 14 (16, 18, 20) sts on Needle 1 for Heel and the same number on Needle 3 for Instep. Work back and forth in rows on Heel sts:
Row 1 (Wrong Side): Purl. Row 2: * Sl 1, K1; rep from * across. Rep Rows 1 and 2 until heel measures approx 2 (21/4, 21/2, 21/2)", end Row 1.
Turn Heel-Row 1: K7 (9, 11, 13), SKP, K1; turn. Row 2: Sl 1, P1 (3, 5, 7), P2tog, P1; turn. Row 3: Sl 1, K2 (4, 6, 8), SKP, K1; turn. Row 4: Sl 1, P3 (5, 7, 9), P2tog, P1; turn. Row 5: Sl 1, K4 (6, 8, 10), SKP, K1; turn. Row 6: Sl 1, P5 (7, 9, 11), P2tog, P1; turn – 8 (10, 12, 14) sts.
Gusset and Foot: Needle 1: K8 (10, 12, 14), pick up and K6 (7, 8, 9) sts along heel; Needle 2: K14 (16, 18, 20); Needle 3: pick up and K6 (7, 8, 9) sts along heel and K4 (5, 6, 7) from Needle 1 – 34 (40, 46, 52) sts. There are 10 (12, 14, 16) sts on Needles 1 and 3 and 14 (16, 18, 20) sts on Needle 2.
Shape Instep-Rnd 1: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1; Needle 2: K; Needle 3: K1, SKP, K to end. Rnd 2: K. Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until 28 (32, 36, 40) sts rem – Needles 1 and 3: 7 (8, 9, 10) sts; Needle 2: 14 (16, 18, 20) sts.
K every rnd until foot measures 13/8 (13/4, 13/4, 2)" less than desired finished length.
Toe-Rnd 1: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1; Needle 2: K1, SKP, K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1; Needle 3: K1, SKP, K to end. Rnd 2: K. Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until 12 (12, 16, 16) sts rem. With Needle 3, K across rem sts on Needle 1 – 6 (6, 8, 8) sts on each of 2 needles. Cut yarn leaving approximately 10" for grafting toe sts together.
Grafting: With instep sts facing you on Needle 2 and sole sts on Needle 3, thread rem yarn into a yarn needle. Keeping the yarn needle and yarn under the points of the knitting needles, work as follows: * Pass yarn needle through first st of Needle 2 as if to knit and slip the stitch off, pass through 2nd st of Needle 2 as if to purl, but leave the stitch on the Needle; pass yarn needle through first st on Needle 3 as if to purl and slip the stitch off, pass yarn needle through 2nd stitch on Needle 3 as if to knit, but leave stitch on Needle. Rep from * until all the sts are joined. Take care to draw yarn up so that gauge of grafting equals gauge of knitted sts. Fasten off. |
