Special st:
Lp st: K1, keeping the stitch on the left needle; bring the yarn forward between the two needles into the Purl position, wrap yarn around left thumb to make a lp, take yarn back between the two needles into the Knit position; knit this st again through the back lp and slip both stitches off the needle; on the right needle pass the 1st st over the 2nd stitch, locking the lp in place.

BASE: With CA and circular needle, cast on 30 sts. K 19 rows. Pick up and K9 sts across a short edge, 30 sts across cast-on edge, 9 sts across next short edge; PM - 76 sts. K each rnd until 71/2" above base. P 2 rnds.
Eyelet Rnd: K1, * yo, K2tog; rep from * to last st; K1. P 2 rnds. K 4 rnds. Bind off.

STRAPS: With CA, cast on 10 sts. K 11 rows.
Divide Straps: K5, join a new skein of yarn and K5 with new skein. K each row and work both straps separately until straps measure approx 18" from beg. Cut 2nd skein of yarn and work across all 10 sts for 11 more rows. Bind off.

MANE: With CB, cast on 72 sts.
Rows 1, 2 and 4: Knit.
Rows 3 and 5: Work across in Lp st.
Bind off loosely. Cut yarn, leaving a 24" tail for attaching mane.

TIES (Make 2): With CB and crochet hook, ch 100. Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY: Weave in loose ends. Sew top and bottom edge of strap to center top and bottom of base. Beginning at right side, weave one tie through the Eyelets at top of bag. Tie ends securely and slide knot to inside of bag. Starting at left side, weave remaining tie through Eyelets. Tie ends securely and slide knot to inside of bag. Close bag by pulling opposite ends of ties. Sew the ends of the mane together to form a circle. Center mane on the front of the bag and sew in place. Using photo as a guide, embroider nose and mouth with CD backstitches. Embroider eyes with CC long stitches. Backstitch around eyes with CD. Attach animal eyes according to package instructions.
