Knitting Needles: U.S. Sizes 6 [4mm] and 8 [5mm].
3 Stitch holders; yarn needle; five 3/8"-diameter buttons; sewing needle and thread.

BACK: With smaller needles and CB, cast on 41 (45, 49, 53) sts. Knit 4 rows marking the first row as the right side. Change to larger needles, join CA and work in Stripe Pat as follows:

Stripe Pat: With CA work 6 rows Stockinette stitch (St st = Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row), beg Knit row; with CB Knit 4 rows.

Rep the 10 rows of Stripe Pat until 10 (10½, 11½, 13)" from beg, end wrong side row.

Shape Shoulders: Bind off 11 (12, 13, 15) sts, put center 19 (21, 23, 23) sts on a holder, bind off rem 11 (12, 13, 15) sts.

LEFT FRONT: ** With smaller needles and CB cast on 19 (21, 23, 25) sts. Work same as back until 8½ (9, 10, 11)" from beg, end wrong side row. **

Shape Neck: Keeping continuity of Stripe pat, K15 (16, 17, 19) sts, turn and put rem 4 (5, 6, 6) sts on a holder. Work 1 row. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows – 11 (12, 13, 15) sts. Work a few rows even until front measures same as back to shoulder, end wrong side row. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT: Work same as left front reversing neck shaping.

SLEEVES: With smaller needles and CB cast on 24 (27, 30, 33) sts. Knit 4 rows, marking first row as the right side. Change to larger needles and CA.

Next Row: [K1, K in front and back of next st] 12 (13, 15, 16) times, K0 (1, 0, 1) – 36 (40, 45, 49) sts. Work 5 more rows in St st, beg Purl row, then Knit 4 rows with CB and continue in Stripe Pat same as for back until sleeve measures 5½ (6½, 8, 9)" from beg, end wrong side row. Bind off.

FINISHING-Neckband: Sew shoulder seams. With right side facing, smaller needles and CB, Knit across 4 (5, 6, 6) sts on right front holder, pick up and Knit 7 (7, 7, 9) sts to shoulder seam, Knit across 19 (21, 23, 23) sts on back holder dec 2 sts evenly, pick up and Knit 7 (7, 7, 9) sts down left front neck edge, Knit across 4 (5, 6, 6) sts on left front holder – 39 (43, 47, 51) sts. Knit 3 rows. Bind off.

Button Band: With right side facing, smaller needles and CB, beg at top of neckband, pick up and Knit 38 (41, 45, 49) sts evenly down left front edge. Knit 3 rows. Bind off.

Buttonhole Band: With right side facing, smaller needles and CB, beg at lower edge of right front, pick up and Knit 38 (41, 45, 49) sts up right front edge. Knit 1 row.
Buttonhole Row: K2, [yo, K2tog, K6 (7, 8, 9)] 4 times, yo, K2tog, K2 (1, 1, 1).
Next Row: Knit. Bind off.

Sew buttons to button band to correspond to buttonholes. Mark fronts and back 4¼ (4¾, 5¼, 5¾)" down from shoulder seams. Place center of sleeve tops at shoulder seams and sew in place between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.
