BACK: With a double strand of CB, cast on 32 (34, 36) sts. K 3 rows. Cut CB. With CA, K 1 row dec 2 sts evenly spaced – 30 (32, 34) sts. Work even in St st, beg P row, until piece measures 6" from beg, end P row. Dec 1 st each side of next row. Work even on 28 (30, 32) sts until piece measures 9 (10½, 12)" from beg, end P row.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 1 st at beg of next 2 rows – 26 (28, 30) sts. Work even until piece measures 15½ (17½, 19½)" from beg. Bind off all sts. Mark center 12 sts for back neck.
FRONT: Work same as for back until piece measures 11½ (13½, 15½)" from beg, end P row.
Divide for Neck: K12 (13, 14), with a second skein of yarn bind off center 2 sts, K12 (13, 14). Working on both sides at once, work even until front measures 13½ (15½, 17½)" from beg, end P row.
Shape Neck: Dec 1 st at each neck edge 5 times – 7 (8, 9) sts on both sides. Work even until front measures same as back. Bind off.
SLEEVES: With double strand of CB, cast on 16 sts. K 3 rows. Cut CB. With CA, work in St st, beg K row, shaping sides by inc 1 st each end of 3rd row, then every 4th row 3 times, then every 6th row 2 (3, 4) times – 28 (30, 32) sts. Work even until 11 (12, 14)" from beg. Bind off.
FINISHING: Left Front Placket: With right side facing and a double strand of CB, beg at neck edge, pick up and K8 sts down left front to center bound-off sts. K 2 rows. Bind off.
Right Front Placket: With right side facing and a double strand of CB, beg at center bound-off sts, pick up and K8 sts up right front to neck edge. K 1 row.
Buttonhole Row: K1, K2tog, yo, K2, K2tog, yo, K1. Bind off.
Collar: With a double strand of CB, cast on 30 (31, 32) sts.
Row 1: K.
Row 2: K3, K in front and back of next st, K to last 4 sts, K in front and back of next st, K3.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until Collar measures 3 (4, 4)" from beg. Bind off loosely.
Sew shoulder seams. Place center of cast-on edge of collar at center back neck and side edges of collar at bind-off edges of front plackets. Sew in place.
Sew lower edge of right placket to center bound-off sts. Sew lower edge of left placket edge to wrong side of right placket. Sew buttons to left placket to correspond with buttonholes.
Place center of sleeve tops at shoulder seams and side edges of sleeves at bound-off sts of underarms. Sew sleeves in place. Sew side and sleeve seams. |
