For best results, loosen the upper tension so that the upper thread is pulled slightly to the underside and no bobbin thread can be seen on the top of the fabric.

Make a test sample on the fabric you will be sewing on and adjust the tension, stitch length and width if necessary.

To prevent puckering, use a stabilizer (a nonwoven, removable backing) underneath the stitching area. Here are some ideas for using decorative stitching:

Fig 1: Borders
Built-in decorative stitches can be applied to the edge of a garment or project to form a border design. Experiment with combinations of different colors to form a pattern.

Fig 2: Create “fabric”
Sew “stripes" of stitching on a solid fabric for an all-over design—even create a plaid.

Fig 3: Create a design
Use a satin stitch or a decorative stitch to create interlocking circles, diamonds or other shapes.  Sew free-form lines of stitching.
