ASSEMBLY Stitch all seams following ½ inch seam allowance unless stated otherwise.
Using an erasable fabric pen and following a 45 degree angle, draw a diagonal line near the center of the quilt front. Draw additional parallel lines 4 to 5 inches from the first. Repeat diagonal lines in the opposite direction creating a lattice grid.
With cut edges even, layer Quilt Front, Batting and Quilt Back with right sides facing out. Stitch through all layers along marked lines, skipping over embroideries.
With all-purpose thread, stitch long edge of pocket triangle to pocket front on all four sides being sure to have right sides of the fabrics together. Press seam to outside. Baste quilt batting to wrong side of pocket along all edges.
Stitch each long edge of the Interior Pleats to the center pocket and the outer edge of the side pockets. Stitch each Exterior pleat to the outer edges of the side pocket creating one wide strip.
With right sides of fabric facing, and cut edges even, pin and stitch the top edge of the Pocket Lining to the assembled pockets and pleats. Wrap lining to the back side pressing in a 1 inch fold along top edge and stitch in the ditch of the seam creating a casing to accept elastic.
ILLUS #1 Insert elastic and distribute fullness evenly. Pin and baste pocket assembly to quilt front along side edges. Fold in ¾ inch pleats on both sides of each pocket and pin and baste pocket assembly to lower edge of quilt front. Stitch between each pocket to separate compartments.
ILLUS #2 For a 1¼ inch double thickness border, pin right side of border to back of quilt with cut edges even. Stitch border to quilt through all layers measuring 1¼ inches from cut edge and mitering at corners. Join ends and trim excess fabric.
Wrap border to quilt front and tuck under 1¼ inches creating 1¼ inches of visible fabric on front side and back side of quilt. Slip stitch border to front covering machine stitches on all edges.
Stitch buttons through all layers at top edge of pockets. |
