New Coats Dual Duty XP®, the “X-tra” Performance thread, combines advanced technology from Coats with nearly 200 years of thread-making experience.  New and unique manufacturing processes are applied to Dual Duty XP’s polyester-wrapped, core-spun construction creating a thread that provides enhanced seam appearance and makes sewing trouble free. Dual Duty XP is smooth and strong—it sews perfectly on all machines from vintage to today’s most advanced.

Available in three sizes; there is a Dual Duty XP  for any fabric from delicates to denim. Dual Duty XP General Purpose is sized for most hand and machine sewing needs. Use on all fibers, knits or wovens. Dual Duty XP Fine is a fine, but strong thread. Use for pucker-free seams in lightweight & silky fabrics. Dual Duty XP Heavy provides extra strength for your heavy-duty jobs and bold stitch appearance for topstitching.

Another introduction with Dual Duty XP is the new trap spool. The new spool has a smooth trap at each end for securing the thread and keeping thread storage tidy. The spools are color coded to help identify the type of thread: General Purpose spools are white, Fine –lavender and Heavy—taupe.

Dual Duty XP’s new updated range of 342 colors means you will always find the right color for every sewing & quilting project. We have also updated our color numbering system. Our existing color numbering system was developed over 100 years ago when no one could have imagined having over 300 colors of thread! When colors were added, it wasn’t possible to do so in a sequential manner. The new system is sequential and has room  for many color additions.
