Cutting Instructions Cut fabrics as follows: Runner: • Print Fabric: 2 Strips 5" x 72", Back 17" x 72" • Solid Fabric: 1 Strip 9" x 72" • Batting: 17" x 72" For each Placemat: • Print Fabric: 2 Strips 5" x 13", Back 17" x 13" • Solid Fabric: 1 Strip 9" x 13" • Batting: 17" x 13" For each Napkin: • Print fabric: 18" x 18" • Solid fabric: 18" x 18" 1/2" seam allowances are used throughout.
Sewing Instructions Runner: 1. For runner front, sew one strip to each side of solid strip, right sides together. Press seams towards solid strip. 2. Lay batting on flat surface. Lay runner front over batting, right side up. Pin-baste front to batting. 3. Thread machine with Dual Duty Topstitching thread on top and Dual Duty All-purpose in bobbin. Set machine for a long stitch length—4 mm. Insert topstitching or size 16 jeans or sharp needle in the machine. Topstitch ¼ each away from seams on the solid fabric, stitching through batting. 4. Select an outline motif from your machines decorative stitches that can be stitched in a heavy thread. Sew a test of the selected stitch. Adjust as necessary. 5. Determine placement of motifs and mark. The motifs shown are 1 1/2" from the seam and approximately 9” apart. Stitch motifs, through batting 6. Place front on flat surface. Place back fabric over front, right sides together. If necessary, trim ends so that all fabric layers are even. Pin and stitch back to front, leaving a 5-6" opening for turning. Trim corners diagonally. Trim seams to reduce bulk. Turn runner to right side. Press the seam allowances of the opening to the inside. 7. Thread machine with Dual Duty All-purpose on top and in the bobbin. Edgestitch around placemat. Placemat: Cut as directed in cutting instructions. Repeat the steps for the runner. Napkin: 1. Pin square of print fabric and solid fabric right sides together. 2. Thread machine with Dual Dual All-purpose thread on the top and in the bobbin. With a 1/4" seam allowance, stitch together, leaving a 3-4" opening for turning. 3. Trim corners diagonally, turn to right side and press. Press seam allowances of opening to inside. 4. Replace the top thread with Dual Duty Topstitching thread. Use a longer stitch length—4 mm and place the topstitching or size 16 needle in the machine. Edgestitch around napkin with solid fabric up, so that heavy thread is stitching on the solid colored fabric. |
