supplies

Two 6½" squares of contrasting fabric (one for outside of bag, one for lining)

Coats® Multi-color Quilting and Crafts Thread (in bobbin & through needle),

Anchor® Pearl Cotton, Size 8, 4-6 feet

One 1" safety pin
Two pony beads
Template Plastic

instructions

1. Using an overcast stitch, stitch around the outside edges of both fabrics. NOTE: Test a scrap of fabric with the overcast stitch you'll be using. If the fabric curls or frays, spray with a fray stop product (or rub a small amount of fabric glue around the edges) and let dry before stitching.
2. Mark the two circles on the wrong side of lining fabric.
3. Pin the squares together, right sides down, offset by 45 degrees.
4. Straight stitch around both circles with all purpose thread.
5. Fold the fabrics in half with the outside fabric on the outside. Using a pair of very sharp snip scissors cut a slit through only the outside fabric between the lines of stitching.
6. Lay fabrics flat again.
7. Cut the pearl cotton into two equal lengths, at least 2 feet each. Fold over one end about 2" and tie a knot so there is a loop at one end. Put the loop on the safety pin and close the safety pin.
Thread the pearl cotton or ribbon between the circles of stitching all the way around the circle and coming out the same hole. Thread the other half of the pearl cotton or ribbon, entering and exiting through the other hole.
8. Pull the threads from each side tight, drawing the bag closed with the outside fabric on the outside. Put a pony bead on one strand of pearl cotton and then tie both the strands from one side together about 1½" from the fabric.
Trim the excess threads. Repeat on the other side.
