If your jewellery collection currently consists of delicate chains, fiddly bracelets and discreet earrings, then you have some serious updating to do this season! The latest trend is for huge pieces that make as much of a statement as the clothes you wear them with: think big collar-style necklaces, armfuls of chunky bangles and rings the size of golf balls!
Leading the trend on the catwalk was Chanel, who accessorized their elegant collection with giant neckpieces in jet black or ivory. At Dries Van Noten there were chunky chains trimmed with big bells in silver and gold, while at Céline and D&G the designers piled on the beads for a really chic look.
Rocking the trend for oversized earrings were Zac Posen and Louis Vuitton. Posen went for dramatic silver chandelier styles, giving his collection a bohemian look. At Vuitton, the earrings were huge and blingy; teamed with slicked-back hair and red lips, they created a cool ’80s vibe.
Models at Marc Jacobs, PPQ and Marni hit the catwalks with both arms full of bangles – an easy look to mimic with bangles and bracelets that you already own.
To recreate the huge earrings and necklaces seen at the designer shows, make your own with piles of beads, wire and thread. Let your imagination go wild – and remember that there is no such thing as too big this year!
