Ali Baba pants at Ralph Lauren, djellabas at Gucci, turbans everywhere from Dries Van Noten to Paul Smith— the spring runways were as shimmering and vibrant as a Moroccan souk.
Turbans were big news on the fashion catwalks this season. They shimmered in lamé fabric at Paul Smith, where they were worn both on the head in the traditional way and around the waist as a sash. At Dries Van Noten simple black turbans were accessorised with opulent, oversized bead and stone neckpieces. Knits some lamé yarn through your own turban to wear in the hot sun come summer.
The biggest Arabian influence was seen at the Ralph Lauren show. The usually preppy all-American label turned its range on its head this season with a touch of Moroccan elegance. Ali Baba pants shone in bright gold down the runway to great effect.
The high-street stores, too, have been quick to sew in a few little Moroccan treasures of their own, from vibrant dyed and sequin-embellished scarves to embroidered tunics. With a little simple stitching, you too can cash in on this colorful trend and be top of the style stakes.
