All-white interiors have long been a favorite look for chic hotels and designer boutiques, but this season sees the trend translated into a workable look for your home.
Think white looks stark and cold? Not in its latest incarnation! Think lots of tactile fabrics, pretty detailing and subtly different shades used together.
For a warm effect, steer clear of brilliant white paint for walls and pick a white with a hint of yellow. True devotees of the white trend might opt for carpets or floor tiles to match – but if you have children, pets or a muddy garden, it’s best avoided! Instead, go for stripped wood, natural fibre flooring or neutral tiles – just as light and airy, and a lot more practical!
Once you have your walls and floor sorted, it’s time to get creative with furniture and accessories. Painted furniture is back in vogue so try updating old wooden pieces with a lick of white paint. To add some softness to your room, go all out with curtains, cushions and accessories. Plain white cotton fabric is cheap to buy, so make the most of it and stitch your own cushions and curtains. Use appliqué and embroidery to add some detail and texture.
Look out for mirrored picture frames, glass candlesticks and delicate vases to finish your new light and bright room – and don’t forget your sunglasses! You’ll need them!
