Make going to bed a luxurious affair and transform your boring bedroom into a boudoir. For a room that screams glamour, think luxury fabrics, mountains of cushions and sparkling accessories.

Inspired by the new breed of boutique hotels that are springing up all over the world, the trend for boudoir-style bedrooms isn’t hard to achieve in your own home. Soft furnishings are key, so start with the curtains. Go extra long so they pool on the floor; a fabric with a touch of sheen will give the most glam look.

When it comes to turning your bed from drab to fab, try covering an old headboard in something touchable like velvet or silk. Whether you use sheets and blankets or a duvet, a bedspread to finish the bed is essential. Go as elaborate as your crafting skills will allow: quilting, embroidery, beading and appliqué all make for a stunning centrepiece on your bed. Use the same skills to create a pile of cushions to recline on. Mix different sizes and add a few bolster cushions for a real hotel chic look.

Once the soft furnishings are sorted, you can add the finishing touches. A few pretty picture frames, a jewellery box, some candles and an ornate mirror will all add to the overall feeling of glamour. You’ll be counting the minutes until it’s time for bed!
