Butterflies seem to have been fluttering around the world of fashion for a while now, with these delicate motifs appearing on everything from dresses to handbags. This year sees them taking flight again and appearing in our homes. From wallpaper and fabrics to china and glass, there is no escaping from this ultra-pretty trend!

For a low-key take on the trend, embroider little butterflies onto bed linen; it gives a really delicate touch to plain white cotton sheets and pillowcases. Alternatively, appliqué butterflies in different printed fabrics onto a plain bedspread. For a little girl’s bedroom go all out with the pink and create anything from butterfly bed linen to a butterfly-shaped pinboard. If sewing isn’t your thing, hunt out ready-made fabric butterflies, which can be wired onto everything from light fittings to curtain tie-backs, or even create your own artwork by making a stencil and sponging butterfly motifs in pretty colors onto a canvas.

Of course, you could just splash out on some of the designer buys that you’ll see on the high street – but making your own is so much more fun!
