Girls get the pick of the crop, with everything from dresses and skirts to trousers and coats being given the same high-fashion treatment that we’ve come to expect from our own clothes. 

To get the tiny trendy look on an equally tiny budget, get out your sewing machine and start creating your own high-fashion children’s clothes. For the ultimate in matching chic, make yourself a simple shift in a new-season print and a smaller version for your little girl; if you have a boy, make him a tie in the same fabric. For a less coordinated but equally stylish effect, head to the high street for fashion inspiration and then use your stitching skills to recreate similar trendy looks for your little ones. Just remember to steer clear of dungarees, peter pan collars and smock dresses – at least until next season!
