HAT

NOTE: Carry color not in use across wrong side of work, picking up next color to be used under color just used to prevent a hole. Join and cut colors as required.

With smaller needles and CA, cast on 66 (72, 78) sts. Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 3½ (4, 4½)". Change to larger needles and work pat as follows:
Rows 1 and 7 (Wrong Side): With CA, P.
Rows 2 and 6: [K2 CA, K2 CB, K2 CA] 11 (12, 13) times.
Rows 3 and 5: [P1 CA, P4 CB, P1 CA] 11 (12, 13) times.
Row 4: [K2 CB, K2 CA, K2 CB] 11 (12, 13) times.
Row 8: With CC, K.
Row 9: With CC, P.
Rows 10 and 16: With CB, K.
Rows 11 and 15: [P2 CB, P2 CA, P2 CB] 11 (12, 13) times.
Rows 12 and 14: [K1 CB, K4 CA, K1 CB] 11 (12, 13) times.
Row 13: [P2 CA, P2 CB, P2 CA] 11 (12, 13) times.
Row 17: With CC, P.
Row 18: With CC, K. Rep Rows 1-7 once more.

Shape Top: With CC, SKP, K28 (31, 34), K3tog, place marker, K3tog, K27 (30, 33), K3tog – 59 (65, 71) sts. With CC, P 1 row. Cut CC. Continue with CB only.
Next Row: SK2P, K to 3 sts before marker, [K3tog] twice, K to last 3 sts, K3tog.
Next Row: P. Rep last 2 rows 5 more times – 11 (17, 23) sts.
Next Row: SKP (SK2P, SK2P), K2 (3, 6), [K2tog (K3tog, K3tog)] twice, K1 (2, 5), K2tog (K3tog, K3tog) – 7 (9, 15) sts.
Size 12-14 Only-Next Row: P.
Next Row: SK2P, K2, [K3tog] twice, K1, K3tog – (7) sts.

All Sizes: Bind off. Sew top and back seams. Fold ribbing in half to wrong side and sew in place. Make a 2" pom pom with CA and attach at top of hat.

SCARF

With larger needles, cast on 22 sts. Marking first row as the right side, K 2 rows. Now work in pat as follows:
Rows 1 and 3: K2, [P2, K2] 5 times.
Row 2: P2, [K2, P2] 5 times.
Rows 4 and 5: K.
Rep Rows 1-5 until scarf measures 50". Bind off.

MITTENS

RIGHT MITTEN:
** With smaller needles and CB, cast on 26 (28, 30) sts. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 (2½, 2½)" inc 1 st on last row – 27 (29, 31) sts. Change to larger needles and St st, begin K row, and work 2 (4, 4) rows while rep 12 rows of Stripe pat (2 rows CA, 6 rows CB, 2 rows CC, 6 rows CB) throughout. **
Shape Thumb Gusset: K14 (15, 16), place marker, [inc in next st] twice, place marker, K to end – 29 (31, 33) sts. P 1 row. Next Row: K to marker, inc, K to 1 st before marker, inc, K to end. P 1 row. Rep last 2 rows until there are 33 (35, 39) sts.
Divide for Thumb: K22 (23, 26); turn; put 11 (12, 13) sts on first holder. Cast on 1 st; P9 (9, 11); turn; put 14 (15, 16) sts on 2nd holder. Cast on 1 st; K10 (10, 12). Work 5 (7, 9) rows even. Shape Tip: [K2tog] 5 (5, 6) times. Cut yarn. Weave yarn end through rem sts; draw up tightly. Sew thumb seam.

Hand: With right side facing, attach yarn to last st on 2nd holder, pick up and K2 sts at base of thumb, K across 11 (12, 13) sts on first holder. P across all 27 (29, 31) sts. Work even until 4 (4½, 5)" above ribbing, dec 2 (0, 2) sts on last row, end P row – 25 (29, 29) sts.
Shape Top: K1, [K2tog, K4 (5, 5)] 4 times – 21 (25, 25) sts. P 1 row. Next Row: K1, [K2tog, K3 (4, 4)] 4 times – 17 (21, 21) sts. P 1 row.
Next Row: K1, [K2tog, K2 (3, 3)] 4 times – 13 (17, 17) sts. P 1 row.
2nd and 3rd Sizes Only: K1, [K2tog, K(2, 2)] 4 times – (13, 13) sts. P 1 row.
All Sizes: K1, [K2tog] 6 times. Cut yarn. Finish tip same as for thumb. Sew side seam.

LEFT MITTEN: Work same as right mitten from ** to **.
Shape Thumb Gusset: K11 (12, 13), place marker, [inc] twice, place marker, K to end – 29 (31, 33) sts. P 1 row.
Next Row: K to marker, inc, K to 1 st before marker, inc, K to end. P 1 row. Rep last 2 rows until there are 33 (35, 39) sts.
Divide for Thumb: K19 (20, 23); turn; put 14 (15, 16) sts on first holder. Cast on 1 st. P9 (9, 11); turn; put 11 (12, 13) sts on 2nd holder. Cast on 1 st. K10 (10, 12).
Complete same as for right mitten.
