Circular Knitting Needle: 8mm [US 11] – 29".

Yarn needle; stitch holder OR 2 yards of smooth contrast yarn to use as a stitch holder.

Poncho fits most women.

Cast on 158 sts. Do not join, but work back and forth in rows.

Knit 5 rows. Now work in pat as follows:

Row 1 (Wrong Side): Purl.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Purl.
Rows 4-8: Knit 5 rows.

Repeat Rows 1-8 for pat until 18" from beginning, end by working a wrong side row.

Divide for Neck: Keeping continuity of pat, K77, K2tog; turn and put remaining sts on a holder to work later – 78 sts.

Next 2 Rows: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows – 76 sts.
Next Row: Work 1 row even.
Next 2 Rows: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows – 74 sts.

Next Row: Work 1 row even.
Next 3 Rows: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows – 71 sts.
Next Row: Work 1 row even.
Next 2 Rows: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows – 69 sts.

Repeat the last 7 rows three more times – 54 sts remain. Bind off loosely.

With right side facing, return sts on holder to needle, attach yarn, K2tog, K77 – 78 sts. Complete to correspond to first side.

FINISHING: Sew bound-off edges together. Weave in ends on the wrong side.
